15 July 2004: The icq-devel mailing list moved to a new host. The old address at http://www.d.kth.se/~d95-mih/icq/icq-devel/ is now deprecated, and will shortly stop functioning.

22 August 2001: The icq-devel list has changed mailing list software from Majordomo to Mailman. This means that subscription and unsubscription procedures have changed. The list is still hosted on www.blipp.com, courtesy of Patrik Wallström.

About the mailing list
The icq-devel is a mailing list for discussion about the protocol used by Mirabilis ICQ program and clones. It is also intended for general discussion about development of clones, but only in areas that are specific to ICQ development, and not for general programming questions (for such questions, there are other resources on the Internet).

The  list is maintained by Magnus Ihse Bursie <icq@ihse.net>. If you haven't been there already, there is a page with ICQ protocol information available here.

Some administrivia:

• You must be a subscriber to be able to post to the list. This might cause some trouble for you if you are using multiple mail accounts, but it is neccessary to stop spammers from spamming the list.
• Do not attach files to messages sent to the list. Remember that mail sent to the list reaches a lot of people, many of which may have slow Internet connections. Instead, put the file on a web page, and mail the URL.
• NEVER post unsubscription requests and similar to the list. If you are unsure of how to unsubscribe, see the URL mentioned above.

To send mail to the list (i.e., to all recipients), send a mail to icq-devel@blipp.com. Note! It is only possible to send messages to the list if you are a subscriber. (This is to stop spammers from spamming the list.)

Unsubscribe
To unsubscribe from the list, go to the icq-devel info page. Note! You must unsubscribe from the same address as you subscribed from.

If you have any problems unsubscribing from the list, you can contact the list owner at icq-devel-approval@blipp.com.

Archives
There is a mailing list archive availible here. This dates from 22 August 2001. There were previously an archive at http://phantom.iquest.net/icq/, for mails dating from 11 July 1998, however that site seems to have disappeared. For messages sent before that date, I have collected almost all previous messages in a large (370 kB) mailbox-format file, which you can download from here.
